When Cristian first started, even shooting on the mini net was difficult. That did not mean he was behind. It simply told us where his coaching needed to begin.

Make the skill small enough to learn.

His coaches lowered the difficulty, slowed down the movement and helped him understand each part of the finish. Once his strong hand became more comfortable, we introduced his left hand early instead of waiting until bad habits settled in.

Repetition gave him ownership.

We kept the instructions short and gave Cristian plenty of chances to try. The goal was not one lucky make. It was helping the movement feel natural enough that he could repeat it with confidence.

Young players are capable of learning both hands when the teaching is patient, clear and consistent.

That is what strong fundamentals look like at Junior Athletics: meet the player where they are, then keep raising what they believe they can do.
