When Iker joined Junior Athletics, he was still adjusting to a new country and a new environment. Walking into another unfamiliar group could have felt intimidating.

The first goal was belonging.

Our coaches learned his name, brought him into the activities and made sure he had teammates to connect with. Basketball gave everyone something simple to share: a ball, a challenge and a reason to celebrate each other.

Comfort created confidence.

As Iker became more comfortable with the group, his personality came through. He communicated more, took more chances and started to feel like the gym was his space too.

Sometimes the biggest improvement is not a new move. It is seeing a child feel like they belong.

This is why culture matters. Families join for basketball, but friendships, confidence and a healthy place away from screens can become just as valuable.
