Make the ball easy to reach
A few minutes of dribbling at home or a visit to a local Mississauga court keeps basketball connected to play—not only scheduled instruction.
Praise useful habits
Notice effort, practice, teamwork and courage after mistakes. Those behaviours help children stay with the game long enough to improve.
Encourage school and neighbourhood play
School teams, recess games and time at the park give children more touches, friendships and healthy off-screen activity.
Let the coach coach
After class, ask what your child enjoyed and what they learned. A calm conversation usually helps more than replaying every mistake from the sideline.
